Hibiscus Clear Sky
High-Integrity Carbon Credits. Built for Institutional Buyers.
Hibiscus Clear Sky develops conservative, rigorously verified carbon credit projects across Africa — starting in Ghana and Senegal. All of our projects are cookstove projects in Ghana and Senegal, certified under Gold Standard. We exist to solve the credibility problem at the core of voluntary carbon markets: overcrediting, weak methodologies, and unreliable supply. Our credits are designed to meet the standards that airlines, traders, and corporate buyers increasingly require.

Cookstoves Projects
Who We Are
Vision & Mission
Our Vision
A world where African communities thrive through clean cooking energy — where replacing open-fire cooking with efficient cookstoves reduces emissions, improves health, and generates high-integrity carbon credits.
Our Mission
To develop Gold Standard-certified cookstove projects in Ghana and Senegal that deliver conservative, rigorously verified carbon credits — solving the credibility crisis in voluntary carbon markets while creating lasting health and livelihood benefits for local communities.
The Problem
Cookstove Carbon Credits Face a Credibility Crisis
Over the past three years, investigative reporting and academic research have exposed systematic overcrediting across major voluntary carbon standards. For cookstove carbon credit projects, the consequences are significant: buyers face reputational risk, regulators are tightening oversight, and confidence in the market has eroded. CORSIA-eligible supply remains uncertain, and institutional buyers are left with limited options they can trust.
Overcrediting
Some cookstove methodologies have overstated emissions reductions, making credits appear more abundant than the real-world impact delivered by households using improved stoves.
Verification Gaps
Weak monitoring, baseline assumptions, and inconsistent field verification can undermine confidence in whether cookstove projects are truly reducing emissions at scale.
CORSIA Uncertainty
Cookstove projects seeking airline and institutional demand must navigate evolving CORSIA requirements, uncertain eligibility, and a limited supply of credits that meet the highest standards.
Gold Standard Trust
Buyers now expect Gold Standard-certified cookstove projects to provide conservative accounting, stronger safeguards, and credible community benefits — reducing reputational exposure.
Our Approach
Conservative by Design
Hibiscus Clear Sky develops Gold Standard-certified cookstove projects in Ghana and Senegal using a deliberately conservative methodology at every stage. We do not optimize for maximum credit issuance. We optimize for accuracy, defensibility, and long-term credibility. Every project we develop is designed to withstand institutional-level scrutiny — from Gold Standard review to independent academic analysis.
Conservative Baselines
We establish cookstove baselines using rigorous data on household cooking practices, fuel consumption, and stove usage, applying conservative assumptions that deliberately understate emission reductions rather than overstate them.
Real, Measurable Reductions
All emission reductions are measured against the replacement of open-fire cooking with efficient cookstoves, using primary field data, monitoring systems, and Gold Standard methodology.
Gold Standard Independent Validation
Projects are verified through Gold Standard’s independent validation and third-party auditing process, ensuring structural independence throughout the verification chain.
Methodology
What "Conservative" Means in Practice
Our Gold Standard cookstove methodology in Ghana and Senegal applies conservative assumptions at every stage. The result is a smaller number of credits per project — but credits that are defensible, durable, and aligned with Gold Standard requirements and long-term buyer expectations.
Geographic Focus
Ghana and Senegal — With a Scalable Africa Strategy
Our initial project portfolio is concentrated in Ghana and Senegal — two politically stable, treaty-compliant jurisdictions with strong local partner networks and the sovereign-level infrastructure needed for high-integrity carbon projects. Both countries provide a strong foundation for Gold Standard-certified cookstove programs designed to deliver measurable climate and community benefits.
Ghana
Gold Standard-certified cookstove project targeting households that still rely on open-fire cooking. The program is built around community distribution networks to reach households efficiently and support reliable adoption at scale.
Senegal
Gold Standard-certified cookstove project targeting savanna and peri-urban households. Strong government support creates a favorable environment for implementation, distribution, and long-term project continuity.
Africa — the Long-Term Thesis
Cookstoves are the primary project type for scaling across Sub-Saharan Africa, offering a practical pathway to expand access, support household adoption, and build a durable regional portfolio at scale.
Local Impact
Community Integration Is Core, Not Optional
Hibiscus Clear Sky does not treat community benefit as a secondary co-benefit. In Ghana and Senegal, cookstove distribution is designed to involve local communities directly through training, distribution, and monitoring. This is a structural requirement of every project we develop. It is not simply an ethical position — it is a risk management framework. Projects without genuine community support face higher permanence risk, monitoring failures, and regulatory challenge.
Formal Benefit-Sharing
Community benefit-sharing agreements are legally binding and embedded in project documents — not discretionary. Local communities receive a defined share of Gold Standard credit revenue, structured for multi-decade disbursement.
Local Employment
Cookstove distribution, training, and monitoring activities are staffed primarily from local communities, creating sustained employment and building long-term institutional capacity.
Health & Co-Benefits
Cookstove projects reduce indoor air pollution and support improved health outcomes for women and children, while also delivering measurable carbon and SDG-aligned co-benefits.
Commercial Structure
Prepayment Model: Securing Future Supply
Hibiscus Clear Sky offers institutional buyers the ability to secure forward access to verified carbon credits through a structured prepayment model. This model is designed for buyers who require certainty of supply, clarity on credit quality, and long-term price stability — while providing us with the development capital to maintain methodological integrity without compromise.
1
Buyer Commits Capital
Institutional buyers provide upfront capital against a defined forward supply of credits. Volumes, vintage years, and quality specifications are fixed at contract execution.
2
Project Development
Capital is deployed directly into project development, monitoring infrastructure, and verification costs — maintaining full separation from balance-sheet financing that could compromise methodology.
3
Credit Delivery
Verified credits are delivered to buyer registries on a defined schedule. Permanence buffers and buffer pool mechanisms protect buyer interests in the event of project disruption.

Prepayment agreements include contractual quality guarantees, independent escrow arrangements, and credit replacement provisions — providing institutional-grade downside protection for buyers.
Risk Framework
How We Protect Buyer Interests
Institutional buyers require more than quality assurance on credit issuance — they require structural protections against project failure, regulatory change, and permanence risk. Hibiscus Clear Sky has designed its commercial and project architecture to address each of these exposures directly.
Permanence Buffer
A mandatory credit reserve — sized conservatively at 25–30% of issued volume — is held in a segregated buffer pool to cover any reversal of emission reductions over the project lifetime.
Jurisdiction Diversification
Portfolio concentration across multiple African jurisdictions limits sovereign and regulatory risk for buyers with large forward supply commitments.
Credit Replacement Provisions
Prepayment contracts include enforceable credit replacement obligations, requiring Hibiscus Clear Sky to substitute equivalent credits from the buffer pool or alternative projects in the event of a shortfall.
Why Hibiscus Clear Sky
Differentiated by Design, Not by Marketing
The voluntary carbon market has no shortage of projects claiming quality. What differentiates Hibiscus Clear Sky is structural: we have built our Gold Standard cookstove projects in Ghana and Senegal with methodology, governance, and commercial model choices designed to address the documented failures of the market — not to maximize credit issuance within existing standards.
vs. Standard Cookstove Projects
Standard cookstove methodologies have been documented to overcredit emissions reductions through aggressive baselines and assumptions. Our conservative baselines are designed to materially reduce overcrediting risk.
vs. Large Aggregators
Credit aggregators bundle projects of variable quality. Hibiscus Clear Sky owns and develops its cookstove projects directly, maintaining full methodology control from project design through issuance.
vs. Offset Retailers
Retail offset channels are optimized for volume and convenience, not institutional due diligence requirements. Our relationships are direct, project-level transparent, and backed by Gold Standard certification.
